There is nothing more frustrating when your fishing tackle and equipment is of poor quality, and not able to target the type of fish you desire.

Poor quality fishing gear is almost guaranteed to break when you’re having your best fishing session ever, or hooked up to the fish of a lifetime!

So even when starting out in fishing, and purchasing your first fishing reel or rod, it is recommended that you shop around and buy the best value gear you can afford.

When you get more into your fishing, and your skill level, and ability to target different kinds of fish species, it is likely that you will then be prepared to make more significant financial investments when purchasing more tackle.

Upgrading Fishing Equipment:

You will be replacing your terminal tackle very regularly.

Items such as fishing line, will be something you will go through quite quickly.

You should be regularly changing out you leaders, and changing the nylon on your rigs at a minimum of once a year.

When your have got a bit more experience under your belt, and your budget allows, you should consider purchasing higher quality tackle when you are up for replacement.

This is also true for lures, jig heads, hooks and flies. And over time you will amass a good collection, and will have a few favorite and reliable brands.

Buying better quality equipment and tackle, doesn’t necessarily mean buying the most expensive.

As with anything, there is always low, middle and high price ranges within a market. But don’t be fooled into thinking that the most expensive is always the best.

I have always found that the mid priced brands and items have always provided the best value for money, and performed beyond expectations.

Quality Of Fishing Tackle:

Just about all fishing tackle and equipment is manufactured in Asia.

A lot of anglers are quite negative about this, but that doesn’t mean that the quality of the product is poor.

Always remember that some of the worlds greatest fishing and marine brands are from Asia, such as Daiwa, Shimano, Furuno, and they are some of global market leaders in the marine industry.

If you stick to the more known brands, then the quality of the tackle will be just fine. Where fisherman get into trouble is when they start ordering from discount websites in bulk straight from Asia. In the end the normally end up with poor quality knock off marine products.

To stay safe, stick with long standing brands and products. For example certain models of fishing reels and rod have been around for over 30 years. These are proven products that are popular and keep selling.

Always purchase from a retailer or manufacturer that offers a warranty, as this is a sign that the manufacturers stand by their products, and gives you peace of mind.

If you’re a beginner to fishing, then you will soon find that this is all about trial and error … and that is half the fun!

Happy Fishing.
